Sports Massage or Sports Soft Tissue Therapy involves many options for the elite, amateur or novice athlete. The type of service provided will depend entirely on what the teams asks of us. All therapists are very familiar with sports medicine team integration and work well with sports doctors/physicians and sports physios.
These sessions may involve assessment (if directed by travelling physio/doc) of range of motion, pain limiting factors and then addressing these issues that are adversely affecting performance. Treatment in these sessions involve all types of soft tissue (massage) techniques and stretching.
Are more predominantly about soft tissue (muscle, fascia, tendon) and nerve health. The focus is on broad handed flush type techniques, reducing fascial adherence and excessive tone. These sessions don't usually involve any need for full assessment (unless directed by the travelling Physio/Doctor).
Any existing injury should be presented to therapists before the beginning of the session – either player or physio/doc. If need be the injury can be treated with direction from the travelling physio/doc.
Sports Massage Oz also offers Self Massage Workshops. Brad Hiskins has spent 15 years providing these lectures to Olympic, Commonwealth, AIS and professional teams. The lectures come with handouts. Costs are $150 per session (one hour session).
